How to Use AudioBuff
A step-by-step walkthrough from uploading your file to downloading the finished result.
Contents
Step 1 — Upload Your File
Drag and drop your audio file onto the drop zone in the center of the screen, or click to browse and select a file. AudioBuff supports all major formats including MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, and FLAC.
You can upload multiple files at once — each will be processed with the same settings. All processing happens entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded to any server.
Step 2 — Trim (Remove Unwanted Sections)
Once your file is uploaded, the waveform is displayed. You can trim the start and end of your audio by dragging the purple handles on either side of the waveform.
Drag the left handle to the right to remove silence or noise from the beginning. Drag the right handle to the left to cut the ending. Trimmed sections appear dimmed on the waveform.
Trimming is optional — skip this step if you want to keep the full audio.
The trim range is shown below the waveform: "Trim: 0:05 – 2:30 (2:25)". The value in parentheses is the duration of the kept section.
Step 3 — Choose Your EQ Settings
The EQ section lets you shape the sound of your audio using presets tailored to common use cases. Just pick the one that matches your content — no technical knowledge needed.
You can also tap "Customize" to adjust individual frequency bands manually, and save your settings as a custom preset for future use.
- Clear Voice
- Ideal for podcasts and narration. Improves vocal clarity and reduces muddiness.
- Warm
- Adds warmth and body. Boosts the low end for a rich, smooth sound.
- Bright
- Lifts the high frequencies for a bright, airy sound. Great for acoustic instruments and vocals.
- Podcast
- Tuned specifically for podcast delivery. Balances presence and listenability.
- Flat (No EQ)
- Bypasses EQ entirely. Use this when you only want to apply other processing steps.
Step 4 — Finishing Options
The finishing options panel lets you apply a compressor and fade in/out effects.
- Compressor
- Automatically evens out volume differences. Brings louder peaks down for a more consistent, comfortable listen. Especially useful for spoken audio like podcasts.
- Fade In
- Gradually brings the audio up from silence at the start. Prevents an abrupt, jarring beginning.
- Fade Out
- Gradually lowers the audio to silence at the end. A natural finish for music tracks or long narrations.
Step 5 — Output Settings
Choose the file format, volume level, and bitrate for your exported audio.
- File Format
- MP3 (compressed, smaller file) or WAV (uncompressed, highest quality). MP3 is best for distribution; WAV is better if you plan to do further editing.
- Loudness Normalization (LUFS)
- Automatically adjusts volume to match platform standards like Spotify or YouTube. Select the platform you're targeting.
- Bitrate (MP3 only)
- Controls the balance between audio quality and file size. 192–256 kbps is suitable for most uses.
For more detail on each option, see the Output Settings Guide.
Step 6 — Process and Download
Once you're happy with your settings, press the "Buff It" button. Processing happens in your browser — no waiting for uploads or server responses.
When complete, you can listen back and compare the processed and original versions using the A/B toggle on the result card. When you're satisfied, click "Download" to save the file. If you uploaded multiple files, use "Download All" to grab everything at once.
All processing is done locally in your browser. Your audio never leaves your device.
